biography

Emilie Arnoux is originally from Normandy, France. From a young age, she became fascinated with the ocean and the laid-back lifestyle that spawns surf culture. His work captures the divine energy and jubilation felt by diving into cool water to find relief from the searing heat; tanned bodies in bikinis soaking up vitamin D poolside or swinging seductively in bright red inflatable rafts. Arnoux's neo-art-deco style is imbued with a certain American nostalgia, reminiscent of David Hockney and, sometimes, Toulouse-Lautrec. She reduces three-dimensional objects to flat geometric shapes that feel both contemporary and modern, reminiscent of seaside postcards from the 1950s and 1960s.

Arnoux's bright pastel color palette uses a range of saturated blues, greens and oranges; the exquisite works on display illustrate, in vivid colors, the exhilarating sensations of summer; you can still feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, the subtle burn of chlorine from the pool, the coconut flavors of sunscreen applied in a thick floating layer in the balmy air, and the delicious taste of salt from the 'ocean on your germy lips.

Arnoux describes his work: "Only water, light and heat... Laughter on the beach and the wind... Then I take my pencils and my brushes and I try to capture this energy and the details that touch. »
